A collective of electrical engineers, tech reviewers, and off-grid enthusiasts dedicated to independent, data-driven portable power station testing.

Background

The WhatPowerFor Editorial Staff is composed of independent tech reviewers, off-grid builders, and product safety advocates. We buy or request review units with zero editorial influence allowed, run them through standardised load draws, and calibrate manufacturer specs against real-world test benches. Our mission is to provide clean, uninflated consumer data so you can size emergency backups and off-grid solar systems with confidence.

Areas of focus

  • Battery chemistry and safety standards (UL 2743, UL 9540)
  • Real-world power draw calibration (Kill A Watt testing)
  • Solar input charging efficiency & MPPT behavior
  • Inverter load limits and surge protection thresholds
